Automotive News is reporting that General Motors has killed off the GM Performance Division. This is crushing news to fans of domestic performance vehicles and the decision appears to have been made in order to appease the government.

Still, it's starting to look like the 2012 model year will be barren of new performance cars for many OEMs (Just like back in 1972 . . . .)

NO FORDS ON THE AMERICA'S "MOST LIKELY TO BE TICKETED" LIST

CNBC reports that an insurance risk data company, Quality Planning Corporation (QPC), has compiled a list of the cars that are most likely to be pulled over and ticketed on American roads.

The insurance company "risk" data (read: excuse for more preemptive customer-gouging) is based on a calculation of tickets per 100,000 miles of driving.

Predictably, CPC concluded that the "personality of the driver has more to do with the frequency of being ticketed than the car itself."

And bland "appliance motorist" sleds are less likely to be tagged by "the Man" than hoopties which express the driver's "individuality" and non-conformity. (Anyone with a hot rod or a muscle car could have told you this one without any study)

Yet surprisingly, not one single car built by Ford made the list. Not even the Shelby GT500 (Of course because most GT500s are sitting in collector garages or on dealer showrooms marked-up to the stratosphere, the lack of law enforcement data is not surprising).

Cheap mass market cars driven by kids (i.e. Scions and other "trendy" imports) and hot ones favored by the rich are the most likely to earn their drivers a date in traffic court.

The number one outlaw? Let's just say its already on GM's death row . . . .

Just wait until the Cops are concerned with enforcing C02 restrictions . . . .
