Roush Fenway Ford Driver Carl Edwards FINALLY won the rain-delayed (and delayed . . . and delayed) Auto Club 500 at Fontana, California.

But did anybody notice?

[NASCAR's decision to string along race fans for about half the day on Sunday may have been the right decision for the ticket holders in the partially empty grandstand, but it was "water torture" for the millions who follow the NASCAR "Sprint Cup" series via television.]

Jack Roush's Fords have now won four straight at the California track. In 2007, Fontana was one of few bright spots in the otherwise dismal transition season to the common-template NASCAR funnycars.

Hendrick Motorsports dominated 2007 with a potent combination of the purpose-built, non-production RO7 racing engine and extensive automated development of the hideous common-template "[Funny]car of Tomorrow."

"But at California, the Roush Fenway Fords seemed to have turned the corner [on the common-template NASCAR Funnycar-of-Today"], as [Matt] Kenseth finished fifth, David Ragan was 14th and Biffle 15th. Jamie McMurray finished 22nd but was running in the top 10 before scraping the wall in the closing laps."

Although Speedzzter has mostly given up on NASCAR due to its irrelevance to the street and de facto bias against Ford, Carl Edwards win is an encouraging sign for Ford Racing.

Maybe the next win will occur when more fans are watching.
