PROGRESSIVE AUTOMOTIVE X-PRIZE ENDING WITH A FEATHERWEIGHT THUD

Only one team survived "knock out qualifying" for the $5 million Progressive Automotive X-Prize. And it wasn't an electric car or a hybrid. Instead, the 100 m.p.g. "future" seemingly belongs to an 800-pound, 250 cc, E85-fueled streamliner.

Now that's a . . . yawn . . . future that I can't get very excited about.
