GM ON THE FRITZ? HENDERSON'S OUT; MAXIMUM BOB TO GIVE L.A. AUTO SHOW ADDRESS

Multiple sources are reporting that GM's CEO, life-long beancounter Fredrick "Fritz Henderson," has called it quits. [UPDATE-- REUTERS REPORTS FRITZ WAS CANNED!]

Fritz says that GM's not changing fast enough.

Speculation is that the collapse of the Penske-Saturn deal, the Konigsegg-Saab deal, and the GM Board's veto of the sale of Opal to Magna International may be behind GM lifer Fritz pulling the chute.

Of course it could be that other than the niche market Camaro, GM's having a tough time finding its way to profitability. Better to bail out than to go down with the ship? (See the latest sales and market share reports here)

"AT&T" Edward "Ed" Whitacre Jr. -- the Obama Administration's hand-picked "outsider" chairman of "Government Motors"-- is assuming CEO duties in the interim.

"Maximum Bob" Lutz will fill in for Fritz at the L.A. Auto Show. Bob should be far more entertaining that Fritz . . . .
